Dr. Anthony B. James: A.A.P.N.A. Advisory Board Member

Ajahn, Anthony James was given the Instructor / Teacher and lineage holder of the Buddhai Sawan tradition by Grand Master Phaa Khruu Samaii Mesamarn, Nongkam, Thailand, in 1986. Grand Master Samaii was the 36th generation Grand Master of the Buddhai Sawan School, initially founded in Ayutthaya, and a consultant to H.M. King Bhumibol Adulyadej, the current King of Thailand. Grand Master Samaii was honored by King Bhumibol several times during his lifetime for service to the royal family and the kingdom. Grand Master twice in his life received awards personally from King Bhumibol, the final award received only three years before Grand Master Samaii’s passing.

Ajahn, Dr. James, helped develop a standardized, bi-lingual, Thai Yoga and Thai Massage program under the direction and patronage of Mr. Khwankeo Vajradaya, Chairman Rajaprajanugroh Foundation, Chairman Distance Learning Foundation Thailand and Grand Chamberlain to H.M. King Bhumibol.

Ajahn, Dr.  James authored the first Thai Massage book published in English in 1981. First used as a manuscript in class for the first three years, it was formally published in 1984 after he was given teacher certification and recognition. It was used exclusively to teach privately in class until 1984, when it was released to the Public and distributed worldwide, beginning a tidal wave of interest that continues today. This first influential book, and still one of the most often sourced and quoted books on Thai Massage, is titled “Nuat Thai, Traditional Thai Medical Massage” and is available at BeardedMedia.Com (“Nuat Thai, Traditional Thai Medical Massage,” Meta Journal Press 1984: ISBN 1-886338-03-5).

Ajahn, Dr. James studied under the former grandmaster Aachan Sintorn Chaichagun at the Shivagakomarpaj Traditional Medicine Hospital in Chiang Mai, Thailand, from 1988 to 1995. He maintained a working relationship with his mentor in the Northern style, Grand Master Sintorn, and “The Old Medicine Hospital” until Grand Master Sintorn’s passing in 2005.

Ajahn, James was the Founder and chief Teacher for the International Thai Therapists Association 1992-2012, to fairly represent the traditional Thai Yoga and Thai Massage currently practiced primarily in the U.S. Dr. James specializes in Native American Medicine, Thai medical theory, Asian history, Ayurveda, and Theravada Buddhism. In 2006, he was granted Aachan/ professor and Master Thai Traditional Medicine: Thai Yoga/ Thai Massage Teacher status through the Anantasuk system (Hua Hin Thailand), recognized by the Wat Po Association. The Wangklaikangwon Industrial College Dean and Educational Director, Dr. Surasak Srinoi, presented the award.

Anthony B. James is a Director of the Native American Indigenous Church Inc., or N.A.I.C. N.A.I.C. is an incorporated Federally Registered,  Native American Church in Florida. Dr. James is an NAIC-recognized Medicine Man- Native Bishop and is authorized to conduct all Native American and indigenous spirituality rituals, sacraments, and ceremonies to honor and respect Grandmother Earth (Matriarchal), Grandfather Sky (Patriarchal) and all of their descendants. The practicing of American Native Indigenous spirituality is understood off and on Federally Recognized Indian Reservations as the Native American Church, which has been granted exclusive federal laws to recognize the spiritual ceremonies and to protect and maintain access to their sacred ceremonial grounds.  American Native Spirituality has historically utilized Grandmother Earth’s minerals and plants to commune with the spirit world to assist their healing and personal empowering ceremonies. Anthony James has an extensive background and history in Native American and Indigenous Medicines. Dr. James is also an adopted member of the Taino Borekin Tribe and Indigenous Nation of Puerto Rico, recognized as a tribal medicine man and licensed under the Taino Nation as a Traditional Medicine provider by both Tribal and Puerto Rico Department of Medicine rules.

Ajahn, Anthony James is the Founder of the SomaVeda College of Natural Medicine and its physical school, The Thai Yoga Center, and the NAIC/ SMOCH/ AAPNA, an Accredited school of natural and spiritually based healing arts and sciences. The Thai Yoga Center is a State of Florida DOE-compliant degree-granting institution. We are also FSBMT/ NCBTMB Category A Approved Providers for Massage Therapy Continuing Education. Ajahn, Dr. James is currently volunteering and offering his instructional time free of charge as a public service. This past year (2019), he donated over 100 full and or substantially reduced tuition scholarships to deserving students with plans to offer scholarship training to an additional 100 professional students planned for (2023). Dr. Anthony B. James Director and Medicine Chief of the Native American Indigenous Church Inc. (SomaVeda College of Natural Medicine, The Thai Yoga Center) has been granted the Gobierano De Puerto Rico, Department de Salud Registro Demografico the Certifico que la persona abajo mencionada, cumplio con los requisitos para obtener el Registro de Celebrantes. In cooperation with the joint authority of the Iglesia Catolica Ortodoxa del Caribe of Lares, Puerto Rico. Dr. James is part of developing a Sacred Medical and Healing Ministry using traditional Medicine in Puerto Rico.

Ayurveda of Thailand wins the 2017 eLit Silver Medal Award, Best New Age, Body-Mind-Spirit category.

Dr. J presented his thesis dissertation at the World Congress on Monastic and Indigenous Medicines, Nevis, West Indies June 7, 2014, and was awarded dual degrees: the Doctorate in Monastic Medicine (h.c.) and the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Indigenous Medicines.

As a Diplomate Doctorate in Acupuncture in cooperation with the Pan American School of Natural Medicine (Nevis, West Indies), Dr. J completed the development of a four-year Doctor of Oriental Medicine in Acupuncture Degree Program (D.O.M.). The D.O.M. in acupuncture will also be offered as a 2-year postgraduate degree for eligible students with advanced degrees already in Natural or Holistic Medicine. Dr. J is a Doctor of Acupuncture Diploma program graduate and a lead Instructor. Dr. J was awarded a Doctorate in Acupuncture (Physical Medicine) on November 28, 2012.

PanAmerican Regents in Houston, Texas February 2013, issued this formal Degree. This will be Dr. J’s second Doctorate in Natural Medicine. Dr. J has completed Post Graduate Studies and is a Graduate of the PanAmerican School of Natural Medicine, Jade Center for Integrative Studies Doctor of Natural Medicine Degree.,

Loma Linda is a charitable Hospital Medical Center and School of Natural Medicine operated jointly by S.M.O.K.H. and the Tsachilas Indian Nation of Santo Domingo.

Friend of Thailand Awardee: When Aachan James received his recognition for more than 31 years of teaching and promotions for the Thai healing arts, there were more than 3000 persons in attendance, and representatives from every primary school and institution were present as well as all significantly related branches of Thai government such as Department of Health, Education, Labor, and Social Services and the Prime Minister of Thailand Thaksin Shinawatra and the Governor General of T.A.T. Suppose you are looking for a teacher who is an authentic representative and lineage holder in several different primary ancient schools of Thai traditions and one who can pass the “Masters” blessing and lineage to you. In that case, you are in the right place. Thai Yoga (Thai Yoga Massage/ Traditional Thai Massage) is an ancient healing modality and part of the four-year training program of a “Maw Nuad” or traditional Thai physician. In our classes, you will learn how a SomaVeda® Thai Yoga therapist assesses and treats disorders by working on Sen Lines, Chakra, and Lom.

This class will look in-depth at Thai Traditional Sen lines and acupressure (Thai Lom – Marma Therapy) and the customization of therapeutic massage routines for specific disorders. You will also learn restorative postures for particular diseases and improve your understanding of body mechanics and postural alignment to allow you to get more out of your practice of Thai Yoga/ Thai Massage. The Thai Yoga program will also focus on Thai Yoga medical philosophy, its evolution from Buddhist ideas, and its application in modern Thailand by folk and Ayurvedic doctors. Thai Medicine is rooted in Ayurvedic tradition but is not interchangeable with Indian Medicine. It is also entirely separate from Chinese Medicine. This course will explore Thai Medicine for its indigenous cultural heritage and open a new vista of the Thai tradition for participants. Many so-called teachers and instructors talk about their credentials and background, but when asked for proof, they go pretty silent. That’s because of the number of “non-Thai” practitioners and instructors who have been given the traditional titles, blessings, and authorizations to pass on the ancient work from the conventional primary schools…you can count on one hand! These ceremonies are never done in private and are well documented.
